Cover Story by Susan Rigetti

I don't know what you call chick-litty thrillers like these, but they're one of my favorite genres of fiction. I love how breezy they are, and the compulsive readability. This one is especially fun because it's like DEVIL WEARS PRADA meets CATCH ME IF YOU CAN, and I believe it's loosely inspired by the case of Anna Sorokin.

The plot is this: Lora Ricci is signing on to be the new intern at ELLE magazine when she comes into the orbit of the glamorous and influential contributing editor, Cat Wolff. Cat takes Lora under her wing and promises to help her achieve all her dreams, plunging her into the luxurious fringes of New York's high society elite.

But some things are too good to be true, obviously.

Including this.

I read this in a single day. I actually got an ARC of this a while ago but set it aside because I was feeling depressed and couldn't really get into the "vibe" of such an upbeat and gossipy-toned book. That happened to be exactly what I was craving right now, though, and man oh man WAS IT SO GOOD. Cut to me recommending this book to everyone I know, especially if they're fans of Katherine St. John.

AND THAT ENDING. *chef's kiss* What a twist.

Some readers may also be interested to know that there is no romance in this book. I personally prefer that my thrillers have smut or romance but this one honestly worked SO WELL without, and it didn't even need that hint of something-something to keep me engaged. If they aren't already planning on making this into a Netflix series, then they are fools, because it's so fast-paced and cracky. Loved it.

Thanks to the publisher for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review!

4.5 out of 5 stars
