The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks

This was truly excellent. My friend and I love reading books like these. Most people call them domestic thrillers, but we call them FULTs (Fucked Up Lady Thrillers™). THE WIFE BETWEEN US is an excellent FULT, with a breezy style of narration that makes it a perfect beach or airplane read. It's very fast-paced and had some twists that actually made me gasp, and go "WHAT." I loved that.

It's better to know less going into this book, but I will say that it is dual POV. One storyline is about a woman named Vanessa, fallen from glory, stalking her ex-husband's replacement wife. The other is about Nellie, a bride-to-be with a dark past and an inferiority complex. You might think you can guess the connection between them, but, as the blurb on the back of the book will mockingly taunt you, you WON'T.

I scoffed at that. I thought I knew exactly what was going on. But I was wrong. And then I was proved wrong at least several more times as I got to first part two, and then part three. By the time I had finished the book, I felt like a weight had just come off my chest. It was such an engrossing, claustrophobic read, with just the right amount of feminism and "accept me at my worst"-ness.

If you enjoy beachy thrillers and engrossing reads, I think you'll really enjoy this. I found it incredibly satisfying and devoured it in a couple days. The only reason it isn't getting a higher rating is that it could feel a bit basic at time. I wish it had had a romance, or a more exotic setting, or something to set it apart from all the Schrodinger's Crazy Housewives™ out there who are doubting their own sanity in (sub)urban America. As much as I loved this one, it's cheesy AF and not the most memorable.

I'm still going to be diving right the fuck into AN ANONYMOUS GIRL, though.

4 to 4.5 out of 5 stars
