The Firebird Song by Arnée Flores

DNF @ p.65

I reaaaaaally wanted to like this one because it seemed like it was loosely inspired by the Firebird myth (and I am such a sucker for that fairytale). But sadly, this book just didn't appeal to me. I didn't really connect to any of the characters and I found the setting to be pretty generic and trope-heavy (including the "lost"/secret princess trope). I know this is for middle grade audiences and I am definitely not the target audience, but I do believe-- and have found in the past-- that the best middle grade books have cross-over appeal that makes them beloved by everyone and this one just wasn't that. For me.

Your mileage may vary. I think if you like Shannon Hale, you'll probably enjoy this author...

Thanks to the publisher for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review!
