What Feasts at Night by T. Kingfisher

Everyone's favorite nonbinary soldier returns in WHAT FEASTS AT NIGHT. Alex Easton still has PTSD from what happened in the Usher house (understandable) and are looking forward to some R&R at their home in Gallacia with friends, but when they arrive there, they discover that their steward has died under mysterious circumstances and that the standoffish and superstitious villagers believe the culprit to be a moroi.

Old favorites return like Miss Potter and Angus, but I also really enjoyed the new characters: Bors and Mrs. Botezatu (we love a himbo and a sarcastically grumpy housekeeper). Kingfisher is one of the few horror authors I can consistently stomach because even though she writes stuff that scares the shit out of me, she's also so fucking funny and the animal companions are always okay.

There are some GENUINELY creepy scenes in this but overall I think I preferred WHAT MOVES THE DEAD a tiny bit more. This was still excellent, though, and apparently there's going to be a book three?

I can't WAIT.
